At 18 years old, Derrick Cargill had just graduated from Iroquois High School in Louisville, Kentucky. An athlete with a bright future, he had been accepted to Indiana University Southeast, where he planned to study sports management. His family was filled with pride and anticipation for the journey that lay ahead for him.

A Tragic Turn of Events

The celebrations took a devastating turn on May 31, 2016. Just after 1 a.m., Derrick was shot in the head at the intersection of Lincoln and Colorado avenues.
