A Tragic Morning in Golden Hill
On the morning of November 5, 2014, the quiet neighborhood of Golden Hill in San Diego was shattered by a violent act. At approximately 6:40 a.m., 41-year-old Vaafuti "Vaa" Togiailua was seated in his parked car on the 900 block of 26th Street when an unidentified assailant approached and opened fire. Togiailua sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and head, leading to his hospitalization. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on November 9, 2014. The perpetrator fled the scene, and to this day, the case remains unsolved.
A Beloved Figure in the Rugby Community
Togiailua was more than just a resident of Golden Hill; he was a cherished member of San Diego's rugby community. Serving as both a player and assistant coach for the Old Mission Bay Athletic Club (OMBAC) Rugby team, Vaa was known for his dedication to the sport and his teammates.
