A Promising Life Cut Short

In the early hours of April 7, 2020, the city of Wilmington, Delaware, awoke to the tragic news of a young life abruptly ended. Ja'naija "Naij" Johnson, a vibrant 16-year-old known for her infectious smile and warm personality, was found with fatal gunshot wounds. Born on September 18, 2003, to Aaron Johnson and Johnesha Bailey, Ja'naija was a beacon of joy to her family and friends. Her untimely death has left a void in the community that remains unfilled.

The Fateful Morning

At approximately 4:50 a.m. on that ill-fated day, Wilmington police responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of North Madison Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ja'naija inside a vehicle near the intersection of Sixth and Van Buren streets. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
