A Night Out Turns Tragic
In the early hours of July 19, 2013, 22-year-old Amber Bass returned to her home on Springtree Road in Jacksonville, Florida, after an evening spent with friends. As she walked up the driveway of the residence she shared with her sister, Robin Lezcano, an unknown assailant confronted her. In a sudden act of violence, Amber was shot once in the chest, a wound that would prove fatal. Her sister, awakened by the gunshot, rushed outside to find Amber bleeding in the driveway. Despite immediate efforts, Amber's life could not be saved. The perpetrator fled the scene, leaving behind a grieving family and a community in shock.
Initial Investigations and Leads
In the days following the murder, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) released a grainy image of a light-colored vehicle, possibly with a malfunctioning brake light, captured on surveillance footage near the crime scene around the time of the shooting. Authorities hoped that identifying the vehicle might lead to the suspect. Additionally, Amber's purse—a gray bag adorned with silver studs—was missing and presumed stolen during the attack.
