On the evening of April 25, 2015, 21-year-old Jamell Tousant Jr. was fatally shot in the 1400 block of 90th Avenue in Oakland, California. Responding officers found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unclear, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. A Father's Grief Turns to Vigilantism

In the wake of his son's death, Jamell Tousant Sr. was overwhelmed with grief and a desire for justice. Believing that members of the Berkeley-based Five Finga Mafia gang were responsible for his son's murder, Tousant Sr. conducted his own investigation. He identified individuals he suspected were involved and, on August 15, 2015, sought retribution.
