A Routine Evening Turns Tragic
On the evening of July 18, 2017, 70-year-old Leroy Moore, a beloved grandfather and retired General Electric employee, was walking with a friend in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood. Around 8:20 p.m., as they strolled near the intersection of South State and East 71st Streets, their peaceful walk was shattered by the sudden eruption of gunfire. Two vehicles sped down State Street, occupants of both cars exchanging bullets in a reckless display of violence. Caught in the crossfire, Moore was struck in the chest. Despite being rushed to Stroger Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries approximately 30 minutes later. His friend, miraculously, was unharmed.

Leroy Moore's death sent shockwaves through his family and community. Residing in Chicago's Jeffery Manor neighborhood, Moore was known for his vibrant personality and deep-rooted ties to the city. He had been married for nearly 47 years, fathered two sons, and was a proud grandfather.
