A Tragic Afternoon in Lawndale
On October 2, 2016, the Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago's West Side was shaken by a tragic event. At approximately 4:02 p.m., 28-year-old Lazerrick D. Ratliff was fatally shot in the back while in the 2000 block of South Homan Avenue. Despite prompt medical attention, he was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:42 p.m. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
A Community Mourns
The news of Ratliff's death sent ripples through the community. Residents of the 5000 block of West West End Avenue, where Ratliff resided, were particularly affected. Friends, family, and neighbors grappled with the sudden loss of a young man whose life was abruptly taken.
