A Promising Life Ended Tragically
In the early hours of December 2, 2005, the life of 23-year-old Elexuis Nicole Woodland was abruptly and violently ended. A hairstylist by profession and a beloved member of her community, Elexuis was known for her vibrant personality and dedication to her craft. As a transgender woman, she faced challenges with resilience and grace, earning the respect and admiration of those who knew her. Her untimely death not only robbed her family and friends of a cherished individual but also highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by transgender individuals in society.
The Fateful Night
On that fateful Friday, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Elexuis and a male friend were walking home after purchasing food from a local carryout in the 2000 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast Washington, D.C. Their routine night took a horrific turn when a light blue, older-model American-made sedan, possibly a Buick or Oldsmobile, approached them. A man exited the vehicle, brandishing a firearm, and demanded money from the pair. Caught off guard and without cash to surrender, the situation escalated rapidly.
