A Promising Future Interrupted

On the evening of January 6, 2019, the life of 25-year-old Damon Dukes was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. Damon, a resident of Northwest D.C., was known for his infectious happiness and dedication to his family. He had turned his life around after turbulent teenage years, earning his GED and a Commercial Driving License, which led him to a position with Big Bus Tours. His mother, Cattena Dukes, recalls his joy in participating in significant events, such as driving during the Capitals' Stanley Cup parade. Damon was not only a devoted husband and father of two but also maintained close ties with his extended family, often visiting relatives and ensuring familial bonds remained strong.

The Tragic Incident

At approximately 7:59 p.m. on that fateful Sunday, officers from the Third District responded to reports of gunshots in the 200 block of V Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, they discovered Damon suffering from a severe gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
