A Tragic Night in Northeast Washington

On the early morning of December 28, 2019, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s Riggs Road NE was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 3:20 AM, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to reports of shots fired in the unit block of Riggs Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Tarriq Curtis Childs, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, unconscious and unresponsive inside a vehicle. He had sustained a gunshot wound and was immediately transported to a local hospital, where, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead.

A Promising Life Remembered

Tarriq's untimely death left a void in the lives of those who knew him. Described by friends and family as a positive individual with an infectious smile, he was a water restoration technician employed by Roto-Rooter. His commitment to his work and his community was evident, and he was a beloved figure among his peers.
