Desiree "Dezzy" Davis was a vibrant 17-year-old with a passion for art, swimming, and writing. Born on June 27, 1992, in New York City, she was the youngest of two daughters to parents Dru Ann and Jesse Davis. From an early age, Dezzy exhibited a natural affinity for creativity and animals, aspiring to become a veterinarian. Her talents extended to music, where she was known for her ability to rap lyrics to numerous songs. Despite facing challenges, including being blind in one eye—a condition that subjected her to bullying—Dezzy remained resilient and determined to pursue her dreams.

A Journey Marked by Resilience

In 1996, the Davis family relocated to New Orleans, seeking new opportunities. However, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 uprooted their lives once more. Trapped by the floodwaters, Dezzy, her mother, and sister Taiisha endured harrowing conditions before evacuating to California. Initially settling in Aptos, where Dezzy attended Aptos Junior High, the family eventually moved to Oakland in 2006. There, Dezzy enrolled at Oakland Technical High School, immersing herself in academics and extracurricular activities.
