A Tragic Night in Laveen

On the evening of August 16, 2016, 29-year-old Maurice Sanders was engaged in a routine act of kindness, picking up friends and family near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Southern in Laveen, a community within Phoenix, Arizona. At approximately 10:40 p.m., this ordinary night took a horrific turn. A silver or gray Chevrolet Suburban approached, and an unidentified assailant described as a Black man with a round face opened fire, discharging 13 bullets into the vehicle Sanders occupied.
