A Fateful Encounter at a Denver Liquor Store

On the evening of January 11, 2010, 21-year-old Lonell Emauel Franklin and his 19-year-old friend, DeShon Lee, visited a local liquor store near the intersection of Bruce Randolph Avenue and York Street in Denver, Colorado. What began as a routine stop quickly escalated into a verbal altercation with an unidentified individual inside the store. The details of the dispute remain unclear, but this confrontation set off a chain of events that would culminate in a tragic loss of life.

The Drive and Deadly Ambush

After the altercation, Franklin and Lee left the liquor store accompanied by a young woman. They drove eastbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard, perhaps attempting to distance themselves from the earlier confrontation. As they approached the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Steele Street around 11:00 PM, their vehicle came to a stop at a red traffic light.
