In the early hours of September 18, 2011, 24-year-old Marquez Jones and his friends were celebrating a birthday at the Rockstar Lounge, located at 10th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Denver. The evening, intended for joy and camaraderie, took a devastating turn as they left the club just before 2 a.m. An initial confrontation occurred near 9th and Lincoln, escalating into a physical altercation involving a group of 20 to 30 men.
