In the early hours of September 18, 2011, 24-year-old Marquez Jones and his friends were celebrating a birthday at the Rockstar Lounge, located at 10th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Denver. The evening, intended for joy and camaraderie, took a devastating turn as they left the club just before 2 a.m. An initial confrontation occurred near 9th and Lincoln, escalating into a physical altercation involving a group of 20 to 30 men. Despite attempts to retreat, Jones and his friends were pursued down an alley, culminating in a fatal gunshot that struck Jones in the head near their parked car. He was pronounced dead later that morning.

A Family's Unending Grief

Marquez Jones was more than a victim; he was a beloved son and a devoted father. His mother, Necole Lowe, recalls the harrowing decision to remove him from life support, a moment that haunts her to this day.
