The Incident: A Deadly Afternoon in Lawndale

On the afternoon of June 12, 2017, the North Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago's West Side was shaken by a violent shooting that left 20-year-old Bruce Crosby dead and two teenagers wounded. Around 2:20 p.m., Crosby, known to friends as "Koboy Savage," was seated in a vehicle with a 17-year-old girl in the 1500 block of South Kildare Avenue. A dark-colored SUV approached, and an unidentified assailant opened fire on their vehicle.

Victims: Lives Interrupted

Bruce Crosby, who lived just a block away from the scene, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m. The 17-year-old girl accompanying him was shot in the abdomen and admitted to the same hospital in serious condition. Additionally, a 16-year-old boy named Demonis Johnson, who was standing on the sidewalk nearby, was struck in the head by a stray bullet.
