Introduction to the Fateful Outing

On July 29, 1955, a serene excursion on Moon Lake in Duchesne County, Utah, turned into an unfathomable tragedy. Five individuals embarked on a boating trip that day: Ruby Mae Bosen, her husband Calvin Wayne Bosen, her brother Clarence Delmer Simons, and their friends A.G. and Lucy Smith. The group rented a small aluminum boat from Moon Lake Lodge, anticipating a day of leisure on the water. 

The Catastrophic Incident

Around 3 p.m., as the boat glided over the lake's deepest section—depths ranging between 115 to 125 feet—their trawling gear became entangled in the motor.
