The Heartbreaking Discovery

On the evening of July 19, 2019, a devastating scene unfolded in the 1100 block of Queen Street NE, Washington, D.C. At approximately 5:49 p.m., relatives discovered the lifeless bodies of 17-year-old Ahkii Scruggs-Washington and his 57-year-old father, Hugh Washington, inside their shared apartment. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head and were pronounced dead at the scene. The absence of forced entry and the lack of a weapon at the crime scene deepened the mystery surrounding their deaths.

A Promising Young Life Cut Short

Ahkii was a student at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, where he was known for his dedication both in academics and athletics. As a member of the school's football team, he was celebrated for his talent on the field and his positive influence among peers. His tragic death left a void in the school community, prompting heartfelt tributes and memorials.
