A Community Shattered by Violence

On the evening of October 28, 2015, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s Northeast neighborhood was shattered by a violent act that claimed the life of 25-year-old Marcquetta Cunningham. Residents of the 4200 block of Edson Place NE were left in shock and mourning as they grappled with the sudden loss of a young woman from their community. The incident not only highlighted the pervasive issue of gun violence in the area but also underscored the profound impact such tragedies have on families and neighbors alike.

The Fateful Incident

At approximately 6:15 p.m., Marcquetta and an unidentified male companion were walking near her residence when they were ambushed by a group of men wearing ski masks. Witnesses reported hearing as many as nine gunshots during the assault. Marcquetta sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while her companion was shot in the leg.
