A Routine Evening Turns Tragic

On the evening of March 3, 2009, the bustling Rite Aid/Stater Bros. shopping center at the intersection of Amethyst and Bear Valley roads in Victorville was filled with patrons going about their daily routines. Among them was 41-year-old Carlos Meza, a father from Hesperia, who had come to the shopping center with his new girlfriend. What began as an ordinary evening quickly descended into tragedy, marking the onset of a mystery that remains unsolved to this day.

The Confrontation and Shooting

As Meza and his girlfriend approached their vehicle, a black 2003 Hummer H2, an unidentified man confronted them. The details of the confrontation remain unclear, but it escalated rapidly.
