A Promising Life Cut Short

On August 17, 2017, the Long Beach community was shaken by the tragic death of 24-year-old Joseph Patton Jr., a resident of Torrance, California. Patton, a dedicated worker at the Conservation Corps of Long Beach, had just completed a neighborhood beautification project when his life was abruptly ended by a senseless act of violence. This incident not only robbed a family of a beloved son and father but also left a community grappling with unanswered questions.

The Fateful Day

The events leading to Patton's untimely death began in the 900 block of Dayman Street, where he was shot multiple times in the upper torso. Despite his critical injuries, Patton managed to drive a few blocks north to the 1900 block of Myrtle Avenue. There, he collided with a parked vehicle, and responding officers found him inside his car, gravely wounded. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
