Introduction

On December 5, 2014, the Loyola University Chicago community was shaken by the tragic death of 23-year-old student Mutahir Rauf. A promising pre-med student from Pakistan, Rauf's life was abruptly ended during an attempted robbery near the university's Rogers Park campus. Despite extensive investigations, his murder remains unsolved, leaving a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the academic community.๎ˆ†

The Fateful Evening

On that cold December evening, Rauf was walking with his brother in the 1200 block of West Albion Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Two masked men approached them, brandishing a handgun, and demanded their belongings. Believing the weapon to be a replica, Rauf attempted to disarm the assailant, leading to a struggle during which he was shot in the chest and head.
