Discovery of the Crime Scene

On the evening of Sunday, March 21, 1999, at approximately 8:00 PM, authorities responded to a distress call in the 700 block of Somerset Place NW, Washington, D.C. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Said Yassir Abdur-Raqib in his residence, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. The immediate surroundings offered little evidence, and there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting that Abdur-Raqib might have known his assailant.

Efforts to Save a Life

Emergency medical services swiftly transported Abdur-Raqib to a nearby hospital. Despite the medical team's best efforts, he was pronounced dead at 8:31 PM.
