A Promising Life Cut Short

On the evening of May 15, 2015, the Jacksonville community was shaken by the tragic death of 17-year-old Jaquon C. Reeves. A sophomore at First Coast High School, Jaquon was known for his athletic prowess, playing both football and basketball. Friends and family remember him as a vibrant young man with aspirations to play collegiate sports at the University of South Carolina. His untimely death not only robbed his family of a beloved son and brother but also deprived the community of a promising talent.

The Fateful Gathering

That Friday night, a group of approximately 25 to 30 teenagers congregated at Sheffield Park, located on New Berlin Road in Jacksonville's Northside. The gathering was intended as a memorial for their friend and fellow First Coast High School student, Johnnel Johnson, who had been fatally shot at an after-prom party just weeks earlier.
