A Promising Life Cut Short

On the evening of June 9, 2017, the Belmont Central neighborhood of Chicago was shaken by a violent act that claimed the life of 21-year-old Louis William Chamness. Born on October 30, 1995, Louis was a resident of the Belmont Gardens area, known for his vibrant personality and dedication to his craft as a carpenter. Friends and family remember him as a funny, loving individual with a big heart, always ready to bring joy to those around him. His untimely death left a void in the community that still lingers.

The Fateful Incident

Around 6:45 p.m. on that Friday, Louis was driving in the 5700 block of West Belden Avenue. Without warning, occupants of a dark-colored car opened fire on his vehicle. Louis sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, causing him to lose control of his car, which then collided with a parked vehicle and overturned.
