A Joyous Milestone Shattered

On December 13, 2017, Jasmine Chacon-Chavez celebrated her 21st birthday, marking the transition into adulthood with hopes and dreams for the future. Just four days later, on December 17, her life was abruptly and violently taken in a shooting that remains unsolved to this day.

The Fateful Evening

It was approximately 9:40 p.m. in Chicago's Chicago Lawn neighborhood when Jasmine, accompanied by 25-year-old Frankie Baez and another individual, was traveling in a four-door sedan along the 5900 block of South Richmond. Without warning, gunfire erupted from the sidewalk; assailants armed with a rifle unleashed a barrage of bullets into the vehicle. Jasmine and Frankie suffered fatal wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third passenger sustained injuries to his arms and legs and was transported to Mt.
