A Quiet Evening Turns Deadly
In the early hours of September 5, 2003, the tranquility of San Diego's 2900 block of Clay Avenue was shattered by gunfire. Jessyka "Bear" Talo-Lyn Brown, a 25-year-old customer representative for Luth Research, was seated on the steps of the Women's Civic Center with her boyfriend. The center was closed, and the couple was engrossed in conversation when an unforeseen confrontation erupted. One or more assailants approached them and opened fire. While her boyfriend miraculously escaped unharmed, Jessyka was fatally struck and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The Immediate Aftermath
The rapid response of law enforcement was notable. A uniformed officer stationed in the parking lot of the Central Division heard the gunshots and immediately broadcasted the incident over the radio.
