In the early hours of September 23, 1990, the small town of Vernon, Texas, was rocked by a heinous crime that remains unsolved to this day. Brothers Derrick Jackson, 12, and James Edwards, 14, were brutally murdered in their home, a place where they should have been safest. The violent intrusion not only claimed the lives of these young boys but also left an indelible scar on their family and the community.

The Night of the Crime

As the family slept, an unknown assailant entered their apartment. Derrick and James were shot in their sleep, offering no chance for defense. Their mother, Linda Jackson, awoke to the commotion and confronted the intruder, resulting in a struggle during which she was shot three times—in the head, shoulder, and buttocks.
