The Crime Scene: A Quiet Evening Shattered

On the evening of May 23, 2002, tranquility was disrupted at the Franklin Commons apartment complex, located at 105 Franklin Street, NE, Washington, D.C. At approximately 10:30 pm, police responded to a call and discovered a gruesome scene: three men lay dead, each having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head. The victims were identified as 21-year-old Daniel “Ears” Dimoh, 25-year-old Mitchell “MickMo” Johnson, and 21-year-old Elvon “Smoke” Miller. All three were pronounced dead at the scene by the D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office.

A Community in Shock

The Franklin Commons was known as a peaceful neighborhood, characterized by its multicolored jungle gym and a learning center in the basement. Residents often sat on their stoops, watching the world go by. However, in the period leading up to the murders, there had been unsettling changes.
