Discovery of the Body

On February 14, 1993, the lifeless body of 26-year-old William E. "Billy" Trimbach was discovered along the I-76 frontage road west of Wiggins, Colorado. The date marked both Valentine's Day and the first wedding anniversary of Billy and his wife, Cindy. Investigators determined that Billy had been shot to death and that his body had been dragged from a vehicle and left on the roadside. The location where his body was found was approximately 45 miles from his home in Stoneham, Colorado.

Circumstances Leading Up to the Murder

At the time of his death, Billy resided with his wife, Cindy, their infant daughter, and Cindy's 9-year-old son from a previous relationship. The family had relocated from Nevada to Colorado about a year prior. Billy worked as a mechanic, striving to support his family and cover Cindy's medical expenses, as she was battling AIDS. The day before his body was found, Cindy reported Billy missing, stating she hadn't seen him since the previous morning.
