A Memorial Day Hike That Ended in Mystery
On May 25, 1998, 28-year-old David Paul Morrison set out from Little Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park with the intention of hiking to the summit of Half Dome. An experienced hiker and chef from San Francisco, Morrison had spent the Memorial Day weekend camping with friends. That morning, he decided to embark on the challenging hike alone, planning to reunite with his girlfriend later that day. He never returned, and despite extensive search efforts, no trace of him has ever been found.
The Last Known Sighting
Morrison was last seen at approximately 7:15 a.m. by hikers in Little Yosemite Valley. He was reportedly wearing a gray long-sleeved University of California Santa Cruz sweatshirt, a white t-shirt, black sweatpants or faded navy blue shorts, Nike Air sneakers, and a black, green, and yellow Osprey fanny pack containing his credit card. The weather that day was unseasonably cold and wet, with snow reported in higher elevations.
