Early Life and Family Background

Judith Anne Brown was born on November 14, 1957, into a large family in The Bronx, New York. She was one of eight children, growing up in a bustling household. In 1975, after graduating from Evander Childs High School, Judith chose to stay in New York City when her parents and younger siblings moved to Kansas. She moved in with extended family in Queens and enrolled at LaGuardia Community College, majoring in psychology.

Struggles with Mental Health

During her time at college, Judith began experiencing significant mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and an eating disorder. In August 1976, after a concerning incident at school where she was found hiding under a desk, Judith sought help at Elmhurst General Hospital.
