On August 26, 2005, Michael William Desmet, aged 33, and his associate, 52-year-old Joseph Clarence Wilma Jr., embarked on a journey from Humboldt County, California, to Wilma's remote property in Covelo, Mendocino County. Driving a maroon 1998 Toyota pickup truck, the two men were never seen or heard from again, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a mystery that has persisted for nearly two decades. 

Michael Desmet was described as a Caucasian male, standing 6'1" tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds, with blond hair and green eyes. He had previously resided in Shelter Cove, California. Joseph Wilma Jr., on the other hand, was a balding white male with brown hair, standing 6'1" tall and weighing 220 pounds.
