Clarence Anglin, born on May 11, 1931, in Donalsonville, Georgia, was one of thirteen siblings in a family of seasonal farmworkers. The Anglin family later relocated to Ruskin, Florida, where Clarence and his brothers began engaging in criminal activities, primarily bank robberies. Their criminal endeavors eventually led to their incarceration in various federal prisons, including the notorious Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Clarence, alongside his brother John and fellow inmate Frank Morris, became central figures in one of the most daring prison escapes in American history. 

The Mastermind Behind the Escape Plan

The escape plan from Alcatraz was a result of meticulous planning and ingenuity. Frank Morris, known for his high intelligence, was considered the mastermind behind the operation. Morris, along with the Anglin brothers, spent months preparing for their escape, exploiting weaknesses in the prison's infrastructure. They crafted dummy heads from papier-mâché, complete with real human hair, to deceive the night guards during their absence.
