Introduction: A Routine Morning Turns Ominous

On June 13, 2001, Sharon Davis, a 51-year-old elementary school teacher from Dallas, Texas, began her day with familiar routines. That morning, she dropped off her daughter, Autumn, at the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Park and Ride station around 7:00 a.m., intending to return home and prepare for a scheduled training session at Stemmons Elementary School. Discovery of the Abandoned Vehicle

Five days later, on June 18, Sharon's green 1998 Mercury Villager van was discovered abandoned in the parking lot of Bally Total Fitness near the Southwest Center Mall in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, less than a mile from her residence.
