Family Tragedy and Disappearance

In September 1977, a devastating car accident claimed the life of Nikole's mother, Susan Klingel. Nikole and her father, Jarrett Betterson, survived the crash with minor injuries. Following Susan's death, Jarrett began a relationship with a woman named Barbara. By December of that year, Jarrett informed Susan's parents that he, Barbara, and Nikole planned to relocate to either California or Las Vegas, Nevada.
