A Night Out Turns Tragic

On the evening of January 3, 1997, 50-year-old Colette Rowles joined her boyfriend, Barry Bryant, and their friends, Paul and Sandra, for a night out at the "Buckeye Bar" in Hesperia, California. The group departed together in Paul's pickup truck, heading to Sandra's residence in Hesperia. According to Bryant, an argument ensued between him and Colette upon arrival, leading Colette to leave the house on foot, disappearing into the darkness of the night.

Discovery of a Gruesome Crime

Nearly a month later, on January 31, 1997, Colette's remains were discovered along Highway 173, east of mile marker 173 in Summit Valley. The autopsy revealed that she had suffered fatal sharp force injuries.
