A Routine Stop Turns Deadly

On March 20, 1986, Corporal Gary Reeves Blair of the Dallas Police Department initiated what appeared to be a standard traffic stop in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1441 North Zang Boulevard. The situation escalated rapidly when the driver exited the vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. A second individual from the car joined the fray, intensifying the struggle. During the confrontation, the primary suspect seized Corporal Blair's service weapon and fatally shot him in the neck. Despite his grievous injury, Blair managed to draw his backup firearm, discharging it and killing his assailant. The second individual was apprehended but ultimately not convicted in connection with Blair's death.

A Community in Mourning
