On the morning of September 1, 2016, the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago witnessed a tragic event that would leave a family in mourning and a community searching for answers. Malik Philpot, a 20-year-old resident of the area, was fatally shot in a senseless act of violence. The Events of That Fateful Day
At approximately 10:35 a.m., Malik was walking along the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard when he was approached by a group of individuals. Without warning, they opened fire, prompting Malik to flee through a nearby vacant lot. Tragically, the assailants pursued him to the 4200 block of West West End Avenue, where they shot him multiple times in the abdomen.
