A Fateful Night in Champaign
In the early hours of March 11, 2018, the city of Champaign, Illinois, was shaken by a violent incident that left its community grappling for answers. At approximately 1:22 a.m., multiple gunshots echoed through the 700 block of North Hickory Street, an area adjacent to a local club. Responding swiftly to the distress calls, Champaign Police discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Among them was 34-year-old Montrez Martice Vonner, whose injuries proved fatal shortly after his arrival at a nearby hospital. The other victims included an 18-year-old female and a 23-year-old female, both from Rantoul, and a 23-year-old male from Champaign; fortunately, their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
The Man Behind the Name
Born on July 8, 1983, in Champaign, Montrez Vonner was a man of diverse talents and deep familial bonds. He attended Central High School, where he began to cultivate his passion for music. Montrez was not only a gifted writer and recording artist but also found joy in playing dominoes and spades. His culinary skills were well-known among family and friends, often bringing loved ones together over meals he prepared.
