A Promising Life Cut Short

In the early hours of October 1, 2016, the vibrant life of 17-year-old Naome Zuber was abruptly ended. A senior at Curie Metropolitan High School in Chicago, Naome harbored dreams of pursuing criminal justice in college. Her aspirations and the joy she brought to her family and friends were extinguished when she became an unintended victim of gun violence in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood. ๎ˆ†

The Fateful Night

On that ill-fated night, Naome had just completed her shift at a concession stand at U.S. Cellular Field, a job she took pride in as it allowed her to contribute to her family's expenses. Eager to celebrate, she joined three friends in a car, heading to a birthday party. As they traveled southbound on Hoyne Avenue around 12:29 a.m., an unidentified man standing on the sidewalk in the 4500 block of South Wood Street opened fire on their vehicle.
