A Fateful Night on East Capitol Street
On the night of September 4, 2019, at approximately 11:58 pm, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s 3900 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to reports of a shooting, members of the Sixth District arrived to find 22-year-old Semaj Alsobrooks unconscious, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Alsobrooks was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. A second adult male victim was also discovered at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.
The Immediate Aftermath and Investigation
In the days following the incident, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) sought the public's assistance in gathering information regarding the homicide. Initial reports described a suspect vehicle—a small, dark car, possibly gray in color—last seen traveling north on the Unit block of Burns Street, Northeast.
