A Promising Life Cut Short

On August 29, 2013, the life of 17-year-old Anthony Dickerson was tragically cut short in Chicago's Avalon Park neighborhood. A resident of the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue, Anthony was gunned down around 1 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Avalon Avenue. Despite being rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, he succumbed to his injuries approximately an hour later. 

A Community Reeling from Consecutive Losses

Anthony's death was particularly harrowing for the Avalon Park community, as it occurred merely blocks away and less than 24 hours after another fatal shooting. On the evening of August 28, 2013, 35-year-old Dwan Long was fatally shot in the chest in the 8200 block of South Avalon Avenue.
