A Tragic Discovery
In the early hours of March 1, 2014, Denver police responded to a call at a condominium located in the 5300 block of North Memphis Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of 23-year-old Dontai R. Carter and 31-year-old Richard E. Sims. Both men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head, as confirmed by the Denver Coroner's Office. The scene was immediately classified as a double homicide, marking the beginning of a complex and, to date, unresolved investigation.
The Immediate Aftermath
Following the grim discovery, detectives identified a missing 2001 Chevy Tahoe, believed to have been taken from the crime scene. The vehicle, bearing Colorado plates 615-IQS, became a focal point in the early stages of the investigation. Later that afternoon, authorities located the Tahoe in Aurora, a neighboring city. Several individuals were found inside the vehicle; however, upon the arrival of law enforcement, they fled on foot.
