On the evening of March 9, 2016, the vibrant neighborhood of Wicker Park in Chicago was shaken by a tragic event. Nineteen-year-old Cesar Mario Perez was standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue at approximately 6:05 p.m. In a sudden and brutal attack, an unidentified assailant approached him and fired multiple shots, striking Perez in the head and abdomen. Despite being rushed to Stroger Hospital, he was pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m. Perez resided just a few blocks away, in the 1400 block of West Division Street, making this loss deeply personal for the local community.

He was described as a selfless individual, known for his infectious smile that could "lighten up the darkest of dark rooms."
