A Life Cut Short Near Home

In the early hours of August 26, 2017, the life of 31-year-old Derrick "Ricky" Nabors Jr. was tragically ended just blocks from his residence in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood. Around 2:15 a.m., Chicago Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 6200 block of South King Drive, near the Parkway Gardens public housing complex. There, they discovered Nabors with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and no arrests have been made in connection with his death.

A Beloved Community Figure

Nabors was well-known and cherished within his community. Friends and family remember him as a peacemaker and a positive influence. One friend expressed disbelief on social media, stating, "I can't believe it but Ricky Nabors was a good person, he was the peacemaker. He never gotten into trouble."
