A Tragic Discovery on Monroe Avenue

On the evening of July 15, 2003, a resident of the apartment building at 3535 Monroe Avenue in San Diego made a harrowing discovery. In the front lobby lay 42-year-old Kauko Aho, collapsed beside his bicycle, which was sprawled on the ground nearby. Aho was suffering from a deep stab wound to the chest and a severe slashing wound on his right arm, bleeding profusely. Emergency services were immediately summoned, and Aho was rushed to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he remained unconscious for a week before succumbing to his injuries.

The Fateful Evening Ride

Investigations into the incident revealed that earlier that evening, Aho had been out riding his bicycle. Evidence suggested that he was attacked somewhere near the 4500 block of 35th Street by an unknown assailant or assailants. Despite the severity of his injuries, Aho managed to ride his bicycle back to his apartment building, where he ultimately collapsed.
