A Tragic Night in San Diego

In the early hours of September 24, 2003, the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 4500 block of Logan Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Larry Glenn Branch lying on the sidewalk within the entryway of an apartment complex. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face and legs. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a local hospital, Branch was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The Events Leading Up to the Shooting

Witnesses recounted that prior to the shooting, Branch was seated on a retaining wall just inside the apartment complex's entrance, accompanied by several individuals. The atmosphere was abruptly shattered when three African American males approached the group. One of the men reportedly uttered, "What's up?" before drawing a firearm and shooting Branch.
