A Community Leader's Tragic End

On December 12, 2016, the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago was shaken by the tragic loss of 49-year-old Lawrence Matchem. Known for his unwavering commitment to mentoring youth and advocating against gun violence, Matchem was fatally shot while shoveling snow on the 400 block of East 40th Street. The Circumstances Surrounding the Crime

On that fateful evening, after a heavy snowfall, Matchem was performing maintenance duties, clearing pathways for local residents.
