Discovery of the Victim

On the night of September 8, 2016, a woman returned to her residence in the 1400 block of East New York Street on Indianapolis' near-east side. To her shock, she found an unfamiliar man lying in the alley behind her house, unconscious and suffering from severe head trauma. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded promptly to her call, arriving just before 10 p.m. The victim, later identified as 30-year-old Mohamed DuKuly, was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, DuKuly succumbed to his injuries the following day, marking Indianapolis' 100th homicide of 2016. 

Circumstances Surrounding the Incident

The details leading up to DuKuly's death remain shrouded in mystery. Initial reports indicated he had suffered head injuries, but further investigation revealed he had been shot. The lack of witnesses and scarce evidence at the scene have made it challenging for investigators to piece together the events that led to his untimely death.
