In the early hours of February 9, 2013, the vibrant nightlife of downtown Santa Cruz was shattered by a tragic event. At approximately 12:30 a.m., 32-year-old Pauly Silva was standing near the Locust Street entrance of The Red Room, a popular bar frequented by locals and students alike. Without warning, gunfire erupted, and Silva was struck multiple times, succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
